This course is designed for nurses and addresses support, evaluation, and intervention with victims of recent sexual assault. The course prepares nurses to examine, collect evidence and support victims of recent sexual assault as well as to provide testimony related to this evaluation. Course content includes risk factors for assault, standards of practice, physical and psychological consequences of assault, forensic and non-forensic examination, injury identification, evidence collection, documentation, and interventions for prophylaxis as well as discharge follow-up. Also included are sections on testimony, consent, and quality assurance. The content has been designed to be consistent with the theory requirements to write the SANE-A (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner of Adults/Adolescents) exams from the International Association of Forensic Nurses.
Upon successful completion of the course , you will be prepared to write the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner of Adults/Adolescents (SANE-A) exams from the International Association of Forensic Nurses.
