The National Institute of Mental Health defines childhood trauma as; “The experience of an event by a child that is emotionally painful or distressful, which often results in lasting mental and physical effects.” However, with the right support, it is possible to recover even from extreme early trauma. The Children and Trauma presentation will focus on the areas of abuse to children, with special emphasis on emotional, physical and sexual abuse. Strategies will be discussed concerning effective methods of helping children who have been affected by trauma heal and thrive in their lives. This session encourages open discussion on how best to fit these strategies into your professional and personal life.
