Water and Wastewater Technician Certificate (WWWT) Information

The Water and Wastewater Technician program provides in-depth knowledge of water distribution systems, water treatment, wastewater collection, and wastewater treatment. Students will gain expertise in operating and maintaining water distribution and treatment facilities, while also learning about underground pipeline repair and small water systems management. Advanced topics in wastewater collection and treatment, including asset management and specialized treatment processes, ensure a well-rounded education in the field of water and wastewater management.
 

Intended for those wanting to break into the field or working professionals, the program can be completed as a year-long certificate or as individual classes for Continuing Education Unit (CEU) credits through the Government of Alberta Water and Wastewater Operator Certification Program. The certificate program can be started at any point during the year and does not need to begin with any specific course. 

Classes include student-paced online learning, in person hands on lectures and lab training, or a combination of both. The full certificate includes 600 hours of Work Integrated Learning (WIL) in the water and wastewater industry.

SPECIAL NOTICE

Learners who complete the full Water and Wastewater Technician Certificate and an additional eight months of related work experience can apply to receive their Level I Water and Wastewater Operator Certification through the Government of Alberta. Please note, there are no prerequisites for this program. However, the Government of Alberta does have prerequisites for those applying for their Level I or Continuing Education Units (CEUs) per course.
