Experience and Equivalency (3-1 Transfer) Learning Pathways Program

Are your professional driving skills first class? Make it official with a Class 1 license!  The new Class 3 to 1 Experience and Equivalency Learning Pathway Program effective April 1, 2025 (formerly Class 3 to 1 Experience and Equivalency Program (MLT02).

Learners require the following to qualify:

  • Drivers with a Class 2 or Class 3 driver’s licence and at least 2 years of experience driving a vehicle with 3 or more axles are eligible to participate in the Experience and Equivalency Program.

  • To take the Experience and Equivalency Class 1 Learning Pathway Program, drivers must apply to the program by submitting an application form to: TEC.licensingtraining@gov.ab.ca

  • If approved, a driver will receive an approval letter by email, which may be presented to a licensed driver training school to register for the course.

*Note: Approvals received prior to April 1,2025, are still valid.*

Once the approval letter has been received from Alberta Transportation, please upload the letter and you are then able to register on line for the program.

       The registration fee is $3999 with full payment is required at time of registration

The program consists of the same eight modules in Core Learning but includes fewer hours of training:

Upon completing the EE Program, learners can take the Class 1 road test.

Successful candidates will receive their Class 1 driver’s license with a provincial restriction.


Important
As of July 1, 2026 Class 1 and Class 3 road test are subject to a $250 fuel surcharge.
